Three of the graduate students: Misses
ROSEMARY GARRETT, E-MING Wu, and
JEAN WANG presented papers at the
Southwest Regional Meeting in Oklahoma
City.
DR. WILLIAM L. MECAY and several
students attended the meeting of the Tex-
as Academy of Science in Fort Worth.
Three of the students, Mrs. ELIZABETH
BUNCH, Misses PAM BROWN and PATSY
COSTNER presented papers before the
Collegiate Division.
DR. HAROLD T. BAKER attended a
meeting in Washington, D. C. of the Di-
rectors of the Summer Institutes in Radia-
tion Biochemistry sponsored by the Na-
tional Science Foundation and the Atomic
Energy Commission. TWU has received a
grant for a nine weeks summer institute
for high school teachers of science.
North Texas State College-
R. J. Thompson
DR. PRICE TRUITT is North Texas State
College's candidate for "Most Traveled
Professor of Chemistry in the Southwest
District for Fall 1960." In addition to
attending the Fall A.C.S. meeting in
New York City and visiting Parke-Davis
in Detroit as a consultant, Dr. Truitt will
have traveled 40,000 air miles as an official
of the American Football League. (He
will have officiated in 16 pro games this
year.)
DRs. R. B. ESCUE, G. PERKINS, C. W.
SCHIMELPFENNIG and J. J. SPURLOCK
(Vice President of North Texas State
College), Grantees, and DR. R. J. THOMP-
SON attended the Welch Conference in
Houston.
The departure of DR. GERALD PERKINS,
wife Virginia (Stormy) and little daugh-
ter, Amanda Louise, for Ponca City will
sadden their many friends in this area.
Dr. Perkins has accepted a position at the
Continental Oil Company Laboratory
effective February 1st.
DR. PRICE TRUITT was inaugurated
Vice President of the Texas Academy of
Science at the annual meeting held in
Fort Worth.
The Chemistry majors at North TexasState College comprise about one-half of
one percent of the total student body.
However, among the thirty-odd students
chosen for Who's Who in American Col-
leges and Universities were four Chem-
istry students: Mr. MAURICE DYKE, Mr.
TERRY HIGGINS, Mr. JAMES LAMB and
Miss LINDA TRUITT.
Tarleton State College-Sam R. Mclnnis
Mrs. JOY TERRY, Assistant Professor of
Chemistry, spoke to three groups of stu-
dents during Career Day at Mineral Wells
High School, November 1. The group
consisted of juniors and seniors who were
interested in attending college. Each group
was given a one hour lecture on college
requirements, courses, degrees, etc.
DR. SAM R. MCINNIS, Head of the
Chemistry Department, attended a Space
Conference at Texas A. & M. on Novem-
ber 18.
Arlington State College-
Rosemary Garrett
DR. RAYFORD HOYLE is the proud
father of a son, Guy Gregory, who arrived
November 27.
East Texas State College--
Garson Shulman
DR. CHARLES S. ROHRER has received
an undergraduate research grant from the
Petroleum Research Fund for work on
the "Catalytic Reduction of Nitro Com-
pounds."
T. I. Central Research-G. B. Larrabee
JOHN Ross, Head of the Process Re-
search Section in the Materials Research
Department is being transferred to The
Metals and Controls Division in Attle-
boro, Massachusetts. He will be Manager
of the Research and Development Depart-
ment of Metals and Controls. The transfer
took place early in February.
