Expectations of Relationships
Four items on the FES Part I were selected to measure students' relationship expectations
with faculty and peers. The items included student expectations (a) of faculty to care about their
students, (b) of the faculty to be superior teachers, (c) to have frequent contact with faculty
outside of class, and (d) to develop close friendships with other students. The relationship
expectations of persisters and early drop outs exhibited little difference among the three female
ethnicities (see Table 5).
